Call Backs
October 11th, 2008 by Richard MacPhersonCasting for the lead role of president went into high gear this week. One thing for sure is that we’re going to have a left-hander in the White House. Both contenders are south paws. That means counting lefties Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr., and Richard MacPherson (class president counts), the country is moving to the left.
Let’s start with Obama. First off, he got the stage right position. Now for those of you who don’t know, stage right and particularly down right is the strongest area to play. That’s because we are used to reading left to right so the tendency is to focus on that side. I’d probably tell him that he started too many responses with the word “well”. I’m not sure if “wow” or “watch out” are better choices, but it’s a thought.
Now McCain was like a comic appearing for the first time on the Tonight Show. The only problem is the audience was in a straight jacket and had obviously been coached not to be human. You can’t walk around during Obama’s responses because that’s stealing focus John. You’ve got a chair for a reason. And you’ve got to remember Barack’s name (not “the one”). You’re both United States Senators.
In the theater when a shows in trouble you hope for a financial angel to solve the problem. America needs the guardians Abraham Lincoln talked about when he called for the “better angels of our nature”.
